Family Fuel Buster Events 2010
Fuel Busting Sunday! - 19th December.
Family Fuel Busters is a project that will be addressing fuel poverty and carbon reduction in Sheffield. We will providing energy efficiency education for primary school children and encouraging "positive pester power" to impact on the energy use of their families at home.
The project will offer support to fuel poor families to help them achieve affordable warmth, manage fuel bills and avoid fuel debt and disconnection. The aims of the project will be achieved through family activities at The Energy House at Heeley City Farm and outreach work within schools and communities.
We can offer a limited number of Primary schools within Enhanced Public Health Program areas free activities:
- A morning or afternoon session in the Energy House at Heeley City Farm. Children will be involved in a range of energy-saving games and activities to encourage them to become 'Family Fuel Busters'. The Class will go back to school with ideas on saving energy at school and home and information to take home to their parents/carers to offer further support. (Please note transport to The Energy House is not included)
- A free visit to the school from a member of our team to talk to a class or assembly about 'Family Fuel Busting'.
- Attendance at a school event or an after school group to provide energy efficiency information and advice to staff, parents and carers.
- We are also able to provide more in-depth advice, support and assistance to families who are struggling with fuel bills or experiencing problems associated with fuel poverty. Home visits can be offered to some families and we will accept referrals from schools and health practitioners.
- Additionally The Energy House is open every week from Wednesday to Saturday, 11am until 3pm to offer members of the public free, impartial advice and information on energy efficiency in the home, grants and financial assistance.
Already since the launch of Family Fuel Busters in October 2009 ,over 500 families have benefited from tailored energy advice in The Energy House, a number of school and community groups have enjoyed educational sessions and we have hosted five Family Fuel Buster Fun Days at Heeley City Farm's Energy House involving arts and crafts, badge making, poster design, trails and games on the theme of energy saving in the home.
The Energy house will be hosting many more free Family Fuel Buster Fun days throughout the year. Activities are aimed at Primary school children but all are welcome to join in.
