Renewable Energy Award for Green Showcase - 3/06/2007

South Yorkshire Energy Centre, based in an eco-refurbished house at Heeley City Farm, last week won one of 5 prestigious Microgeneration Awards at a ceremony in Harrogate.

The Awards, presented after the second Yorkshire and Humber Microgeneration conference, recognise achievements in the field of renewable energy.

South Yorkshire Energy Centre, the renovation of which was funded by Yorkshire Forward, Sheffield City Council and Yorkshire Water, is the culmination of many years of work in the energy and green building field by Heeley City Farm. The centre runs a range of courses in renewable energy and green building technologies, visits for school and educational groups and is open to the public on weekend afternoons.

Centre manager Nick Parsons said:

"It is a great pleasure to receive this award, and for the work of the Centre to be recognised. A dedicated team of staff and volunteers has ensured that the Centre is an inspirational and informative place to visit. If we are to have a sustainable future, places such as this need to thrive."

Heeley City Farm has won other awards for its energy efficiency and green buildings including a European design award for its green-roofed training buildings in Heeley and the Care 4 Air award for its contribution to improving air quality in Sheffield and the region.
